Multiplication word problems Week 5

WALT: Use 2 times table to solve 4 and 8 times tables.


Solve these problems.  Please show your working please.


Each child has 4 marbles. If there are 7 children, how many marbles are there in total?
4 X 7 = 28 marbles
2 X 7 = 14
double 14 = 28
There are 9 bottle caps in each box. How many bottle caps are in 8 boxes?
9x8=72 boxes
9x4=36
double 18=36
double 36=72
Paula has 6 boxes of peanuts. Each box holds 8 peanuts. How many peanuts does Paula have?
6x8=48 peanuts
6x4=24
double 24=48
Kimberly went to the store 4 times last month. She buys 12 peanuts each time she goes to the store. How many peanuts did Kimberly buy last month?
4x12=48 peanuts  
2x12=24

double 24=48


Each child has 8 apples. If there are 7 children, how many apples are there in total?
8x7=56 apples
4 x 7 =28
double 28=56


Ronald went to the store 8 times last month. He buys 6 bananas each time he goes to the store. How many bananas did Ronald buy last month?
8x6=48 bananas
6x4=24
double 24=48
Each block costs $4.00. How much do 9 blocks cost?
4x9=$36
2 x 9 = 18
Double 18 = 36

Kathleen went to the store 8 times last month. She buys 5 bottle caps each time she goes to the store. How many bottle caps did Kathleen buy last month?
8x5=40 bottle caps
2x10=20
double 20=40


Todd has 4 boxes of apples. Each box holds 8 apples. How many apples does Todd have?
4x8=32 apples
2 x 8 =16
double 16= 32


Each ticket costs $6.00. How much do 8 tickets cost?
6x8= $48
6 x 4 24
double 24=48
